Bookbug is a fun group where we can share ideas on how you can support your child's speech, language and communication. Joining in with the songs and games in the session is a great way to build on the interactions between you and your child to develop their language skills.
There were lots of fun ways to support 'pause and wait' in this week's session and you can try these at home too. Sing some songs together, such as If you're happy and you know it ~ ask your child to choose an action, waiting until they give you an answer. You could give a visual clue, for example, nod your head, if they are struggling to reply, but try not to answer for them. Old MacDonald had a farm ~ ask your child to choose an animal, waiting until they give you an answer. If they are struggling to answer, offer a choice of two eg cow or sheep, and wait until your child chooses.
You can share stories together, asking your child questions, such as "What can you see is happening in the picture?" or "What do you think will happen next?"
